Create with The Junk Lady

Description

I am a teaching artist who develops and provides creative art experiences for students of all ages. I call myself “The Junk Lady” and my theme of “Transforming Junk into Treasure” involves using found and discarded materials to create art that is visually exciting and environmentally friendly. My projects are designed so that students may explore their own artistic voices, make design decisions and become more aware of discards in our own environment. I believe that exploring the arts can and should be exciting, fun, and meaningful.  If libraries would like to focus on this summer's theme of "Oceans of Possibilities" we can include materials for open ended art as well as:

  • Beaded Fish: for ages 8 to adult. Make a hanging fish ornament using a variety of brightly colored beads.
  • Sand and Sea Glass Mosaic: for ages 10 to adult. Make a small decorated beach-themed box using sea glass and beach sand.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, a Master of Arts degree in Education, and am an ASU Gammage Teaching Artist trained in the Kennedy Center Arts Integration method. I have been a professional teaching artist for over 15 years and work extensively throughout Arizona with students of all ages from preschoolers to senior citizens. Program fee: $150-$200 depending on project.
