Aloha! Let’s Make a Colorful Lei!

Description

Ever wonder why Hawaiian flower lei, are so beautiful and colorful? Learn about the history and types of lei-making from a Native Hawaiian and experience creating your own lei to help share the Aloha Spirit of love and kindness through the beautiful colors and craft of lei making.

With a focus on Hawaiian cultural education, we show a slideshow about the history of Lei Making, traditional styles of weaving, materials used, and how to traditionally wear and give a Lei. Depending on the age, we have the participants make a lei.

  • For the younger kids, it can be simply paper and straws (supplies provided).
  • The teenagers and adults we can use ribbon, yarn, or even real flowers depending on the budget for the event (let's discuss what supplies you might need).
  • Class size also depends on the type of lei we are making as usually our adults and teenage classes are around 20 and the kids class is usually 50 maximum with families to help with the craft.
