The Heart of It All, the Importance of Telling Your Story

Description

The Heart of It All is a song, story and poetry concert, deliberately crafted to inspire the audience to leave their story for others to learn and grow from. For each piece presented, the audience is given time to write down their thoughts for later expansion. I let them know there are no right or wrong responses, and that they can relax because no one is asked to stand and tell their story. Participants can bring their favorite paper and pen, but I also provide note cards for those of us who are terrified of a blank 8.5x11 sheet of paper. Please, no phones or tablets for taking note.

The program consists of 45 minute sets, allowing 15 minutes between sets to stand up and refresh, and peruse the resource table. A portion of the last hour is reserved for question and answer regarding storytelling and the different types that might work for different needs.

Special Notes

Small workshop 2 hours no class size limit $400. Large format 3 hours no class size limit $500.

My program has two goals. First to get people, especially young people, talking and sharing face to face, creating real and present community, and thereby getting young people interested in the stories of those around them, i.e. parents and grandparents. The second is to get the youngsters interested in creative writing, storytelling, and the art of oral History and how it empowers and educates.
